The Nordic IT group KMD will see a new CEO starting in the new year. The 57-year-old Thomas Jul brings extensive experience from both the public and private sectors, having transformed major global corporations. Thomas Jul enters the role with a vision not just for the next step, but to unlock the enormous potential KMD has built through its pivotal role in Denmark’s digitalization.

Since becoming part of Japan-based NEC Group in 2019, KMD has increased its international ambitions. The company’s Chairman of the Board, Tomoki Kubo, expressed his enthusiasm for attracting a profile like Thomas Jul.

"I am incredibly proud that we have been able to attract a leader like Thomas Jul. He has a unique profile with both international experience in large tech and telecom companies and proven results from leading Nets and most recently Inpay, where he demonstrated his ability to scale businesses. I am fully confident that Thomas will drive KMD to the next level in our ambition to consolidate our position in the Danish market and expand as a major international player in mission-critical software solutions for the public and financial sectors. I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to Per Johansson for his dedicated leadership, the strong foundation he has built for KMD’s growth, and his valuable contributions to NEC's broader mission and goals," says Tomoki Kubo, who, in addition to being KMD’s Chairman, is also Corporate Senior Vice President and Head of DGDF Business Unit in NEC Corporation.

Since its founding in 1972, KMD has evolved from producing data solutions for Danish municipalities to being a key supplier of digital solutions for both public and private enterprises. Now, the 57-year-old North Jutlander, Thomas Jul, will lead the company into its next phase— an opportunity he looks forward to.

“From its beginnings, KMD has played a central role in the digitalization of one of the world’s most digital societies. In recent years, under NEC’s ownership, this foundation has been strengthened and expanded to form a broad, scalable software business both nationally and internationally. Looking ahead, our goal is to grow strategically and geographically, enabling us to support existing and new customers across sectors and regions with modular, standardized software solutions. It is an honor for me to be part of KMD’s future development, and I look forward to working alongside KMD’s highly competent employees and leadership while leveraging NEC Group’s global strengths to realize this vision,” says the newly appointed CEO, Thomas Jul.

Thomas Jul will assume his new role immediately after the New Year, succeeding Sweden’s Per Johansson, who has served as CEO since April 2021.
